Marrakech Day Trips
From ocean light to the red city.
Marrakech is about 250 km from Agadir — usually around three hours each way by road, largely on the motorway across the western High Atlas. It makes for a long day, but a vivid one: the Koutoubia minaret, the alleys of the medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa, the square that comes alive as the sun goes down.
Highlights
The great square of storytellers, musicians and food stalls at the heart of the medina.
Marrakech's 12th-century minaret, a landmark visible across the old city.
A UNESCO World Heritage medina of covered lanes, crafts and spice stalls.
Places such as the Majorelle Garden or Bahia Palace — entry rules and hours apply.
What to expect
An early start, a long drive through changing landscapes, then time on foot in the old city. With roughly six hours on the road in total, it pays to choose a few highlights rather than trying to see everything.
Good to know
- Plan for a long day — rest stops and city traffic add time.
- Wear comfortable shoes and dress respectfully for the medina.
- The Koutoubia mosque itself is not open to non-Muslim visitors; admire it from outside.
- Summer in Marrakech can be much hotter than on the coast — carry water.
Where it happens
Marrakech lies inland, north-east of Agadir, at the foot of the High Atlas. The medina has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
